Dinner
Dinner customs are different around the world. If you are a dinner guest in Ghana, this information will help you a lot.
In Ghana dinner is usually from four in the afternoon to six in the evening. But there are no strict rules about time. Whenever a guest arrives, a family offers food. When you go to a home, the person who
receives guests takes you to the living room first. At this time everyone welcomes you. Then you go to the dining room. There you wash your hands in a bowl of water. All the food is on the table.
In Ghana you usually eat with your fingers. You eat from the same dish as everyone else. But you eat from one side of the dish only. It is not polite to get food from the other side of the dish. After dinner, you wash your hands again in a bowl of water.
Most meals in Ghana have a dish called fufu. People in Ghana make fufu from the powder of some plants. Sometimes they cut the fufu with a saw because it is very hard. You must chew fufu well, or you may get sick. You eat fufu with the fingers of your right hand only. 41. From the passage we know that in Ghana _____.

A. cut it with a saw B. use your right hand only C. chew it well D. all of the above
答案为D。此句为细节推理题。细读最后You must chew fufu well. or you may get sick. You eat fufu with the fingers of your right hand only.这几句话,就会发现选项A、B和C均在此句的意思中,因此选项D是正确答案。

Three decades ago,Steve McCurry took arguably the most famous picture of all time.Yet even after all this time, the photographer is filled with enthusiasm when he talks about Afghan Girl.
“I knew she had an incredible look,a sharp gaze,”he recalls.“It was before digital camera and with the big crowd and dust all around, you never knew what would happen with the film. When I developed the picture,I knew it was special.I showed it to the editor of the National Geographic, and he jumped to his feet and shouted,‘That’s our next cover’.”
Not only did Afghan Girl become the magazine’s next cover, but the most successful in its distinguished history. The striking portrait of 12yearold Sharbat Gula,in a refugee camp, was taken in December 1984 and published the following year.
When McCurry reflects upon its popularity, what excites him most is the impact that this single image has had on the real world.
“People volunteered to work in the refugee camps because of that photograph,”he says.“Afghans are incredibly proud of it,as the girl is poor but shows great pride, strong will and selfrespect. It drew attention to their poor situation, and inspired a lot of people.” It also led the National Geographic to set up the Afghan Children’s Fund—and meant that to this day,McCurry is never charged a fare by appreciative Afghan taxi drivers.
The portrait forms the centerpiece of a major exhibition of McCurry’s work, which opened recently in Monza,Italy, and will run until 6 April. The famous photograph is just one of thousands of extraordinary pictures that McCurry has taken over a 40year career, during which he has won dozens of awards. For many years, frontline war photography like this was McCurry’s stock in trade.Indeed,it enabled him to make his name.

Powerful and mysterious, the wizard(巫师) has been an attractive figure in fantasy literature for as long as the type of literature has existed.Their pointed hats, mysterious ways, and great deeds are familiar to any reader of fantasy literature. They are our childhood heroes and nightmares(噩梦), and many of us grew up with stories full of their adventures.Within the fantasy text, these complex personalities can serve several important roles, taking the part of either the hero, or terrible villain (反面人物).Regardless of the actual role they play within a given story, wizards have several common elements and characteristics that are typical of them. Wizards, in fact, are able to control the world around them through superhuman or magical means. The worlds they live in vary greatly from novel to novel, but the important characteristics of the character type itself remain more or less the same. One of the great strengths of the wizard figure is that nearly any type of character can be one.Authors have created wizards out of men and women of all personalities, backgrounds, and abilities, but although almost any type of person or character in fantasy literature can be a wizard, those who are have several important characteristics in common. Wizards in fantasy literature are rarely static figures. They are almost always driven by some quest (追求) or desire that they use their power to achieve. This is one of the main differences between wizards in fantasy literature and those in the older fairy tales and knightly epics that came before fantasy literature. In folk and fairy tales, which are more focused on the adventures of knightly heroes, the wizards often serve as no more than a plotfurthering device, giving the hero a quest to pursue and equipping them for the trials they eventually face. But in fantasy literature, the wizards themselves can play the role of hero.
